Triple 9 isn’t that good.

It doesn’t know what type of film it wants to be. It starts out as a heist film and then it becomes a gritty cop film, a gangster film and a family drama film. It’s doing too many things at once.

That’s not even the worst thing. The worst thing is that it doesn’t do any of the above very well. The story is loaded with clichรฉs and the characters are severely stereotypical.

The only saving grace of the film is the cast & the action. The assembled cast is quite impressive but their characters are underdeveloped and dull. The film relies too much on their star power.

The action scenes are fine. The opening heist sequence is probably the best part of the film. Mostly in part to some good editing and a decent soundtrack.

The whole premise of the film is a bit silly. A group of corrupt cops are forced into a heist & they need a distraction to pull it off. Bizarrely, the best idea they can come up with is killing a cop. Surely there are better possible distractions?

I can’t help but wonder what the many big names in the film saw in it. I’m assuming and hoping they were offered a lot of money. It’s the only logical explanation for their involvement.
