One of the best shows on TV right now. Perhaps the best show on TV right now.
(EDIT: it’s not the best thing on tv right now because the best thing on tv right now is Orange is the New Black)
This season of Outlander moves proceedings from the hills and plains of Scotland to the fancy locales of Paris, France.
The new locations and costumes are excellent. It’s sometimes hard to believe that this is a TV show. At other times, such as a late episode featuring a small battle; the limited budget does show.
Like the first season, perhaps even more so, the show features a brilliant cast of interesting characters. The three main leads are again excellent and I’d be amazed if Caitriona Balfe and Tobias Menzies don’t get some major award attention.
I’m not going to discuss the plot or the numerous big reveals, twists and turns. This show is a must watch & I really don’t want to ruin it.
One of the things I want to applaud about the show is the way it represents female characters. An argument could be made that Outlander is a feminist show. In a lot of TV shows and films, female characters are often (but not always) reduced to eye candy. Sex scenes and female nudity are often presented for little other than titillation. The fact that Outlander avoids doing this, is impressive.
Outlander is a must watch. With Game of Thrones ending sooner rather than later & with 2 more seasons of Outlander on the way, I’m hoping this becomes the next big thing. I’m surprised and disappointed that I seem to be one of the few people watching it.
Seriously, WATCH IT! It’s available on Amazon Video in the UK & on Starz in USA.
